Kristina Stone LeCrone has spent 35 years in classrooms — K–12, higher education, teacher training, and international contexts spanning South Korea, Armenia, Turkey, the Marshall Islands, and the remote villages of Southwest Alaska to university lecture halls in Idaho.

That breadth is not incidental. It shapes everything about how she thinks about learning, about what actually matters in a classroom, and about what AI can and cannot do in the presence of a real teacher and a real student.

She didn't set out to become an AI educator. She set out to keep asking the questions teachers have always had to ask: What is learning for? What belongs to the student? What belongs to the teacher? And what outside force (technology or otherwise) is quietly changing education without anyone's permission?

Those questions led to the Calm AI Framework, and the framework led to five books, a growing educator community, and a consulting practice serving schools and districts navigating one of the most disorienting transitions in the history of teaching.

Where the CALM AI Framework Comes From

The Calm AI Framework is a three-question decision protocol Kristina developed for educators navigating the daily reality of AI in their classrooms. It doesn't tell you what tool to use. It tells you how to decide.

What belongs to AI? The tasks, drafts, and research where AI genuinely reduces workload without reducing learning.

What belongs to the teacher? The relationships, judgment, modeling, and mentorship that AI cannot replicate — and that are worth protecting.

How do we keep learning at the center? The check that keeps the decision honest: does this actually serve the student, or does it serve speed and convenience?

Any educator can use this framework. It fits on an index card. And once it becomes a habit, it changes the quality of every AI-adjacent decision a teacher makes.

AI is a tool, not a replacement for thinking, and not a threat to good teaching unless we let it become one.

They are the ones who hold the line on what matters (rigorous thinking, authentic assessment, genuine human connection) and make deliberate, principled decisions about where technology serves that work.
